Welcome to the boldest & brightest clubhouse on the internet
This you?
You want to write (yay!), but aren’t sure where to start.
Should you buy a book of 493 journal prompts & set an alarm for 5:00 am so that you can write every day for a full hour because that’s what Writers do?
…but then you’ll have to buy a fancy journal and a new set of pens because that’s what you do when you’re taking something seriously.
…and you’ll probably need eleventeen luxury candles that Gwyneth Paltrow uses when she has to do math.
Oh, and you’ll need a new wardrobe full of off-white loungewear that can transition you from sobbing in the fetal position under your desk (Don’t have a desk? Add it to the list!) to dinner on the patio of your favorite Wendy’s.
And once you’ve acquired the supplies, your new life as A Writer will finally begin.
Listen, pals: you don’t need the perfect pen or journal to write. And you definitely never have to write alone.
Casual Magic writing sessions are a space where folks who are craving a space to play and exercise their creativity come to be as weird as they are IRL. For two full hours every Saturday, we become our own island of misfit toys who write what needs writing.
IT’S CASUAL— LIKE VERY CASUAL
Worried that you have to be Your Best Self and write a moving & masterful essay during our time together? Nooooope, not in this house!
You don’t have to:
turn your camera on (for virtual sessions)
talk or share about yourself
share your writing
look “presentable” (whatever that means)
be in a good and happy mood
write for the full allotted time
write at all
You can attend, camera and microphone off, and just be yourself and that is exactly right and perfect. You as you are is exactly right and perfect.
You oughta know:
Sessions are held every Saturday from 2:00-4:00 pm MDT.
Prompts are brand new each time. There will be at least 25 minutes of writing time, plus an opportunity to share your writing.
Sessions are offered on a sliding scale from $15-$50. This means you will choose an amount within that range that is appropriate for you! Please know you are not required to pay the same amount each time—do what’s best for you.
Community supported spots are available for every session, so if the price is prohibitive for you, select the “I’m interested in a community-supported spot” option on the sign-up form & I’ll send you the link for the session, no questions asked.
FAQs
-
To help folks write!
Sessions are a generative space by design, meaning we focus on generating fresh, new writing, but you can also use it to work on editing & revising whatever you’re working on.
-
All kinds!
Journaling, poetry, essays, etc. Since I’m not acting in my capacity as a teacher, you won’t be receiving direct instruction on types of writing, strategies, etc.
-
Nope!
Every single person struggles with making time, so you’ll be in a space with folks who write and publish often, write but never publish, rarely write, and those starting out on their journeys with writing for the first time.
If you’re looking for a space to express yourself and get inspired to write, as well as receive a metric ton of support, you’re in the right place.

You’ll be in a cozy Zoom room with other folks who want to make time for themselves to write, but find it hard to do so on their own.
—There are no participation requirements, so you don’t have to turn on your camera or unmute yourself to speak; if you want to, rad!
—There’s no word count requirement or Assigned Thing You Should Be Writing, so what you do during the writing time is up to you. Sometimes the point of attending is to be present, and that’s just as important as writing something new.
—If you write something and want to share it, rad! TW and CW are required, and you’ll want to be sure you’re adequately resourced to do so. You’ll also decide if you’d like feedback from the group and what types of feedback you’re looking for.
—Once everyone has shared, we’ll take time to reflect and mindfully close the space.
—And that’s it! You did it! If you have any feedback at ALL, an anonymous form will be shared with you at the beginning and end of the session. Please feel free to use it and/or email me any time!
Love from some casually magical folks
“I was extremely nervous to join because I didn't feel like I belonged since I wasn't a ‘real writer’. I love to write but I never felt like I could consider myself a writer. But this group invites me to show up and reminds me that I don't need to have any specific title or certification or background to call myself a writer. All I need to do is write and now, I’m a writer.”
